Drawbacks of Conventional Neutral Keyboards

Fingering in some cases can be complicated or unnatural and finger positions can be uncomfortable or cramped. This is particularly true of the continental chromatic system, in the author's opinion.

As all notes are available in order to be able to play in any key, the keyboard is bigger than than that of a bisonoric instrument having just 2 or 3 home keys. Consequently, the instrument itself is bigger and heavier.

Some neutral arrangements are directionally biased. On the Wicki/Hayden layout, for example, there is a large distance between octaves horizontally, that is moving along the same row. In contrast, the distance vertically, moving inwards or outwards through different rows, is greatly reduced.
